Ukraine and Azerbaijan plan to expand the practical exchange of experience in humanitarian demining. A key area of cooperation will be the clearance of urban areas and the preparation of liberated communities for safe recovery.
The prospects for further cooperation were discussed during the 4th International Conference on Mine Action in Baku. As part of the event, the Ukrainian delegation met with representatives of the Mine Action Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan, known as ANAMA.
Ukraine is particularly interested in Azerbaijan’s practical experience in conducting humanitarian demining operations in urban environments. The parties also discussed potential joint projects and the development of trilateral cooperation between Ukraine, Azerbaijan and the United Nations.
ANAMA was invited to participate in the Ukraine Mine Action Conference — UMAC 2026 — scheduled to take place in Brussels in mid-November.
During the conference, the Ukrainian delegation also held discussions with representatives of other countries affected by explosive ordnance contamination. In particular, representatives of Ukraine and Lebanon discussed exchanging experience in clearing agricultural land and restoring soil damaged by hostilities and explosive hazards.
The conference in Baku brought together more than 400 participants from 60 countries. Stronger international cooperation and the exchange of practical expertise will support more effective humanitarian demining and the safe recovery of Ukrainian territories.
